Located on the boundaries of the London Boroughs of Enfield, Barnet and Counties of Hertfordshire and Middlesex the area of Oakwood, Southgate, Cockfosters and Enfield is very much part of London yet benefits from being on the edge of the country surrounded by vast expanses of Green Belt land.

It can trace its history to Roman times, but its modern history really only started early last Century when in the 1930s the Piccadilly Line, part of the London underground system was extended, opening up new residential areas that now form London’s suburbs. The Grade 2 listed Oakwood tube station, was originally known as Enfield West, before changed name in 1946 to the now familiar Oakwood station from which the area gets its name. During this time company’s such as Laing Homes and George Reed & Sons built their much sought after family homes that give the area its distinct feel.

Transportation

Transport links are excellent, with the Piccadilly line running via Kings Cross / St Pancras station, home to Eurostar trains, through the heart of London and on to Heathrow International airport. Junction 24 of the M25 is a few miles beyond Cockfosters Station linking in to M11/M1/M4 and A10.

Trent County Park

Trent Country Park is one of the few surviving remnants of the once extensive Royal Hunting Forest of Enfield Chase. Much of the character of the park has changed little since 1777. Today, the 413-acre Park, forms part of London’s protected Green Belt, is owned and managed by The London Borough of Enfield meaning it is open to the public for walks, jogging, cycling, horse riding and other leisure activities.

Also within the Trent Park area are an Equestrian Centre which is a British Horse Society Centre of Excellence; Public Golf Course designed by Peter Aliss & Clive Clark and the Middlesex University campus.

Saracens RFC ground and the renowned Chicken Shed Theatre Company are also located in the area.
